School Programs
Position Summary: School Programs volunteers will work with staff to facilitate school field trip arrivals, check-ins and orientations at Historic Fort Snelling. This includes greeting groups as they arrive by bus, assisting in organizing and checking-in groups, distributing field trip materials, and assisting groups in timely movement between the check-in and scheduled activities. Support help may also be requested for preparation of check-in materials (teacher/chaperone name tags, check-in slips) for upcoming field trips as needed. Volunteers may also assist inside the exhibits by handing out and collecting materials.
Time Commitment: Weekly or every-other week from April 8 through June 6. Morning and afternoon shifts are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Volunteers should be available for a School Programs Training at the Fort from 2:00pm - 4:00pm on Saturday, April 5.
Responsibilities:
Warmly greet students and chaperones as they arrive by bus at the Welcome Plaza.
Assist in organizing students and adults into preassigned groups.
Assertively and respectfully move groups to their check-in, orientation and scheduled areas.
Assist as needed in distributing field trip materials to teachers and chaperones.
Use a cart to move school lunches to designated storage areas.
Help Visitor Services staff with any support duties that may arise, such as making check-in slips and teacher/chaperone stickers.
Assist in giving general directions and information regarding Historic Fort Snelling.
Use a two-way radio to communicate with other volunteers and historic site employees.
