Lumber First, Flour Later...
Cadwallader C. Washburn, ca. 1880.
Minnesota Historical Society Photograph Collection, por 18697 p2
Mr. Washburn, like the Pillsburys and many other Minneapolis millers, started out in lumber and moved on to flour. They made their money in sawmills and forestland, then invested in flour milling as the spring wheat of the prairies proved its worth.
